The Father

September 22, 2019 Leave a Comment

In Psalm 68, the writer declares God is a

“Father of the fatherless and protector of widows…” Psalm 68:5

To different people, this will settle differently.  Some of us have experienced loving relationships with our fathers and have lifelong memories.

However, I have worked with kids and adults long enough to know that not everyone has been as fortunate.  Sometimes, because we are all flawed, parents let their kids down.

This leads to feelings of abandonment, rejection, and loneliness.

Today, I want to say to you, especially if you are in this place, this need not be your feelings.  We have a God who seeks to let us know how much we are loved and has chosen us to be His.

Christ’s own father, sent His son to be the salvation for our souls and to bring us eternal love and acceptance.

That is why we can call Him “Father”.

“…and I will be a father to you and you shall be sons and daughters to me says the Lord Almighty…” 2 Corinthians 6:18

Fathers were established to protect, provide and lead. Whether or not the earthly father we have been given meets this,  our Heavenly Father always does this.  He promises in His word that

“For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father”  Ephesians 2:18

As we come to accept His promises and guidance in our lives, we also come to see that He is faithful and His works in our lives are always for good.

We are loved by our Creator and Father and no rejection or horrible circumstance has a right to throw a spirit of deadness over us.  We were made to live and to live abudantly.

Scripture is full of women, mighty women from whom we hear nearly nothing about their earthly fathers. This is not to discredit the influence they may have had in their lives.  Instead it is meant to highlight their focus on their heavenly father–The Father. The same Father that you and I have access to-every minute of everyday!

Esther, Ruth, Mary, Abigail, and Lydia were all women who were able to accomplish amazing things for God because they looked to Him for their strength, protection, acceptance, and guidance.

“See what kind of love the Father has given to us that we should be called children of God.”  I John 3:1

Today rest in the promises that when we are His, He is The Father.

He is a good, good Father. He can’t be anything else!!

Love you!!
