Strength Enough

May 17, 2020 Leave a Comment

I sat in exhaustion and stared at the TV screen. My heart was not in the music as I watched my dear, hardworking church staff bring worship into my living room. All I could think of, as the music swelled, was how much I despised the inability to gather face to face with brothers and sisters in … [Read more...] about Strength Enough

Monday Morning Meditation: Change

May 4, 2020 Leave a Comment

The story is written like a movie script. A father with twelve sons. Some of them loud, some quieter, and a couple clearly favorite. Then a scheme to silence one unfolds, and before we know it he is on a ride to Egypt, his brothers waving in the rearview mirror. Maybe it is because I have … [Read more...] about Monday Morning Meditation: Change

Three Prayers of Jesus

April 13, 2020 1 Comment

I quickly read the message on my phone. "I prayed for you today". These five words followed by a small heart were all it took to lift my spirits. It had been a rough day. My kids were struggling, I was feeling pulled a myriad of directions, and peace and quiet were nowhere to be found. My … [Read more...] about Three Prayers of Jesus

God is Good

November 7, 2019 Leave a Comment

The chorus of voices around me sang the praise song and repeated the words over and over God is so good. God is so good. He's so good to me. My heart was heavy. My lips were moving but no sound was coming out. I struggle to sing worship songs when I am struggling to trust or in a place … [Read more...] about God is Good

The Father

September 22, 2019 Leave a Comment

In Psalm 68, the writer declares God is a  "Father of the fatherless and protector of widows..." Psalm 68:5 To different people, this will settle differently.  Some of us have experienced loving relationships with our fathers and have lifelong memories. However, I have worked with kids … [Read more...] about The Father

I remember my parents and grandparents telling us I remember my parents and grandparents telling us stories about the storms they endured. This is one of ours.

The 2021 historic ice storm of Valentines weekend where we watched massive trees explode like shrapnel.

Where power was knocked out for days and roads were closed as people attempted to recover from what looked like a war zone.

Where prayers were prayed for protection and comfort each night by the light of the fireplaces, candles, and lanterns.

Where we saw Jesus show up in the kindness of humanity with chainsaws, hot coffee, and generators.

Where we cried with each other behind COVID masks and we knew that we would rise again.

The place we saw God whisper His presence and remind us that we are better together. The place we were reminded that strength comes from hard and we will endure.

This is our history and our story to tell. #family #workingmom #faithoverfear #hope #familyiseverything
