I could see the pain in my sweet friend’s eyes. She seemed paralyzed and there was nothing I could do or say at that moment that would fix her problem.
Fear had gripped her heart over circumstances she could not control–and she didn’t know what to do.
I had no answers and the reality of the situation settled over us like a heavy, wet, wooly blanket.
As we continued our conversation, details around the change she was facing with her family emerged. She sighed after sharing her story and looked at me through tears.
“What am I going to do? I am so scared.”
At that moment, the vulnerability and transparency of my friend caught me off guard.
My heart cried out, What am I supposed to say, God? I have no words.
Have you been there?
Have you ever been faced with a difficult situation or decision or walked with a loved one through these scary places and the words won’t come?
The pieces don’t fall into place.
We stand facing an ocean of silence and feel helpless, scared, and alone.
It is in these moments that God wants to whisper words into our hearts that heal, comfort, and guide us.
Here are 10 verses to share for overcoming fear and worry.
Verses on Overcoming Fear and Worry
It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed. The poor man cried, and the Lord heard him and saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him and delivers him.
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God in who I trust”.
Out of my distress, I called on the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me free. The Lord is on my side, I will not fear. What can man do to me?
For I, the Lord your God hold your right hand; it is I who say to you “Fear not, I am the one who helps you.”
But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not fear, only believe”.
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests may be known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear…
I John 4:18
Worry and fear will face us as sure as the sun will rise and set. But God’s words consistently provide encouragement and peace in the midst of the uncertain. His words for overcoming fear and worry inspire us to press forward and remind us as we walk with others, that we never walk alone.
